October brought IBMA's World of Bluegrass to Raleigh, NC. Here's a message from President Annie Savage: "A very special congratulations to the following musicians and bands who have a Colorado connection and were selected as worthy of being featured as a performing artist at this year's International Bluegrass Music Awards, Business Conference and Ramble: Caribou Mountain Collective, Taarka, Greg Blake, The Railsplitters and Jeff Scroggins & Colorado. You are all on the front line representing this mighty fine state of bluegrass' that we call home! Way to go!"
If you're looking for concerts and live music, look at our own CBMS member venues and check out what they are serving up. You can also go to our calendar. Want to jam? Listed by day of the week, our jam schedule is getting more current and up to date. We appreciate all the help we have had in making our jam scheduled a little more reliable. As always, if you have a jam you're trying to grow and promote, let us know.
There are a few live music events-not necessarily bluegrass- coming up in Gunnison. Also in Durango. You can always check out the Denver area's Park House schedule for their latest concerts. Also Planet Bluegrass' new series starts October 9. Swallow Hill also offers concerts, and will feature John Hiatt in an upcoming fundraising concert for Swallow Hill in November. CBMS members enjoy a discount, but only for specific "bluegrass" shows. Call ahead to confirm.
October is usually the time when the local acoustic societies begin offering up new concerts. If you're lucky enough to live near one, make sure to support the events-many of them will feature our local bands on call. The oldest acoustic society is the Black Rose Acoustic Society. There's also Buffalo Grass and Canon Rose. Durango Acoustic Society offers concerts. Rocky Mountain Highway also offers live music-usually restricting the shows to bands doing original music.
To support our own CBMS bands on call, check out the CBMS bands on call calendar. If you have enjoyed listening to music but want to step out there and take music lessons, check our the CBMS member music schools here. Don't wait until January for some sort of New Year's resolution. Do it today!
Thank you all for your ongoing support. We have made a lot of changes over this year. If there's something you would like to see, let us know here. We'll try and make it work.
