It's May. Time to grab the coolers, lawn chairs and camping paraphernalia and go play music. For a list of all upcoming festivals and concerts, please click here. We've tried to step up our game in making sure that we have a good list of what's going on around the state. Your help is always appreciated. If you see something missing that we ought to have, please let us know here. Remember, Jams are listed under the "Events" tab. They are listed by day of the week. Check one out and go play!
CBMS's outreach opportunity - BEOP (Bluegrass Education Outreach Program) -is expanding and currently accepting applications from our Bands on Call members. Let us know if you would like to be hired to help us in this important outreach opportunity. It's definitely a win-win situation: Win for the kids in getting exposed to this fabulous genre of ours, and it also provides an opportunity for our Bands on Call to be hired by CBMS. Click here for more on that.
Next month we will be rolling out an expanded outreach opportunity that will put musical instruments into the hands of students wanting to give bluegrass music a try. We are calling it the "John J. Wood Lending Library." Many of you knew John. He was a friend to all who knew him in the jam circles of Colorado. He knew how to encourage people to get involved in music and was a great supporter of bluegrass in Colorado. John's family wants to see his memory live on in the spirit of generosity that an instrument lending library would represent. We are in the process of collecting "starter" instruments for the library. Please check around the house, under the bed, etc to see if you have any instruments that you would be willing to donate to Colorado Bluegrass Music Society. I myself (Joy Maples) found an adorable quarter-size violin that my youngest started on a long time ago. I had completely forgotten about it. I also found a starter mandolin that neither of the kids ever played. That's two instruments that I can donate and write off the fair market value for my taxes. Nice.
If you find an instrument or two that you are able to donate, click here and fill out the form. We can make arrangements to pick it up. Thanks again.
MeadowGrass is coming up May 22-24. Bluegrass at the Fair is May 29-31. It's not too early to start thinking about upcoming festivals in June. The Pagosa Folk 'n Bluegrass festival line up is outstanding this year. We hope to see you there. Get your tickets early! And again, for a list of all that's going on, click here and we'll see you at a festival soon.
And last, but not least, CBMS is gearing up for another awesome Pickin' in the Pines coming up August. If you would like to earn one day's admission, we are looking for a few good volunteers. Please email Annie Savage and let her know that you can help out.
Enjoy the day. Play hard. Sing often.
