Festival season is in full swing. We’ll be at Pueblo’s Bluegrass at the Fair this weekend. Come join us. Even though online ticket sales have closed, there are still plenty of tickets available at the gate-and it looks like it might not rain this weekend. Awesome!
Take a moment to familiarize yourself with CBMS’ bands on call. We have a new member band or two, so stop by their websites and say hi if you can. As a band on call member, we also offer a section on the CBMS website that displays your band's performance calendar. It sorts by day of the week, or even which part of town you're in. Check it out here.
Colleen Murphy is the winner of the John J. Wood Scholarship to RockyGrass’s Academy. Read about her in this month’s issue of Pow’r Pickin’. Congratulations!
Upcoming festivals: Pagosa Folk ‘n Bluegrass June 5-7. Palisade’s Bluegrass and Roots festival is June 11-13. The Golden Music Festival is the same weekend. The Holly Bluegrass Festival is also the same weekend. Telluride kicks off June 18, the 35th annual Black Hills Bluegrass Festival starts June 26, as does the Clear Creek RapidGrass Festival. Pickin’ on the Divide is Saturday, June 27. Choices people. Lots of choices! For a complete list of what’s going on, click here.
The CBMS website has a new section called “leads” which provides you the name and address of the venues that have booked CBMS bands on call over the last month. It includes out of state addresses where our bands on call have performed. Use the addresses to send a direct mail, or use it as a resource for planning your own trips to book gigs along the way to and from some of your summer festivals.
If you are looking for a jam in Colorado, visit the JAMS section of www.coloradobluegrass.org. Jams are listed by day of the week. If you have a jam you want to share, fill out the form here. And if you see one that’s not happening anymore, let us know here.
There is still time to sign up for the FARM School's house concert featuring Rebecca Frazier of Hit & Run and Becky Buller. The date is June 4. Steel Pennies will open. Text or email Annie Savage your RSVP. Only a few seats left.
There's a lot going on and we thank you for supporting Colorado Bluegrass Music Society. Producing the monthly magazine, keeping up on the new, revised website; trying to get our hands around the jam scene and connect people with outreach and service opportunities takes a lot of work, but the community that it builds is priceless. If you are not a member of CBMS, please become a member here.
And speaking of volunteer opportunities, we are still looking for a few good volunteers to help with Pickin' in the Pines. This event happens August 13-16 at the Peaceful Valley Boy Scout Camp in Elbert, CO. Cost is $35 for the weekend, plus $10 for camping. Contact Ms. Annie Savage for details on how we can help you plug in to the Colorado bluegrass music scene at this upcoming festival.
Also, we ask again this month to look under the bed and up in the closet for any old and unused instruments to help us build our John J. Wood Instrument Library. These instruments will be used to connect people to music. Submit here and we will make arrangements to deliver it into the hands of the volunteers coordinating this important project.
Enjoy this month's festivals, concerts and jams. Play hard and play often.
