High Mountain Hay Fever at Westcliffe is always a crowd favorite as far as festivals go. Taking place July 9-12, Ron Thomason of the Dry Branch Fire Squad is the host for this long running festival. If you can't get out to Westcliffe, attend the Colorado Rocky Mountain Old Time Music Festival which will be held at Parrish Ranch near Berthoud, Co. There are so many festivals and concerts going on in July, we encourage you to click on CBMS' events page to check out the latest.
And speaking of events, CBMS is sponsoring a new concert series with the aim of featuring more nationally renown acts, and up and coming IBMA artists at the super intimate Center for Musical Arts in Lafayette. This is a great way to get up close and personal with the artists. Our maiden voyage will feature Chris Henry, who has played for years with Peter Rowan and is a showcasing IBMA artist at next year's conference! For tickets to this show, happening on Saturday, August 1 at 7:30 pm, please click here. Tickets for the show are $12.75 for CBMS members and $13.75 for non-members.
Colorado Bluegrass Music Society is launching a lending library this summer for musical instruments. Our membership has been very generous and we have some instruments to lend. Instruments are loaned in three-month increments. We are thankful for the outpouring of help in developing this project and are thankful to John Wood's family for their help in establishing this lending library. There are two instruments that are currently under represented: the bass and the banjo. If anyone has such a beast to contribute to this outstanding project, contact us here. And, if you want to help in another way-perhaps a financial contribution or if you're a luthier interested in helping us maintain this "fleet" of instruments, we would also be grateful. Have your own sense of how you can help? Email us here.
If you are lucky enough to have RockyGrass tickets. Terrific! But, if not: remember, there's always a chance that someone will have a conflict come up (unlikely, but...let's dream here for a moment) and Planet Bluegrass has a section on the website that allows for that kind of ticket exchange/resale. Visit here to get more info. The same opportunity is also available (resale) for RockyGrass Academy. Though all classes are sold out, sometimes someone has to resell their tickets and here's where you can look for this opportunity.
Coming up at the end of this month is the third annual Avograss Festival, hosted by Avogadro's Number Join the fun in Fort Collins beginning Jul 30. For the full line up and details, click here.
One last plug for Chris Henry and Hardcore Grass, coming August 1st for our first ever concert in our newly conceived Lafayette Bluegrass Series. Get your tickets here.
Don't forget about Pickin' in the Pines coming up in August. Check here for details. Enjoy this very green summer.
