Hey CBMS!Advertising and MoreBy Tom Stuart(Note: Revisions made 1/23/06 by webmaster)From time to time folks have to contact CBMS. Mostly, folks want to place an ad in the paper or post information about a band or event on the web site. The “how to” information is pretty simple, but because some folks have experienced difficulties, we figured it was time to readdress things, clean up procedures and generally put everything in one place. First, if you have my direct home or work e-mail or Chris’ direct home or work e-mail, please continue to use them for personal correspondence. However, please address requests for advertising to Managing Editor and Ads Coordinator . This address goes to both Chris and myself. We’re working real hard at backing each other up so we don’t miss a timely request for advertising and this allows each of us to see what the other sees. We have established the following discounts for advertisers in Pow'r Pickin'. All member bands and business members will receive a 10% discount. An ad that runs multiple months will receive a 10% discount. We request that e-mailed ads be in .JPG or .PDF format at 300 dpi. It makes for a much better image in the paper. Please remember that the cutoff is the 15th of the month for the following month’s paper. As an example, that would be the 15th of December for the January issue. Please don’t come begging on the 16th of the month. I don’t take bribes. I don’t know for sure about Chris, but I’d be willing to bet he’s as honest as I am. As a side, your ad must be in “ready to publish” format. Pow'r Pickin' does not provide graphic services, however Chris might be able to recommend someone who would contract the job. If you are just a regular member, not a band or a business, and you need to sell off your Martin to purchase groceries or pay the taxes on the farm, you can run a classified with the first 15 words free and 20 cents a word thereafter. And if a non-member wishes to place a classified ad in Pow’r Pickin’, the rate is $7.00 for the first 30 words and 20 cents per word thereafter. Once the Martin has sold and the tax man is no longer at your door, please tell us. Otherwise we’ll probably continue to run the ad. The webmaster (Mike) can be reached at Webmaster if you have questions or want to submit items for the Bulletin Board, Kudos, Art Gallery, Photo Gallery, and Articles. With the exception of photos/images for the Art Gallery and Photo Gallery, please do NOT send .jpg files or .doc files--please send plain e-mail text only! Events should be CBMS sponsored Events, gigs of CBMS bands on call and their members, acoustic music Events (primarily bluegrass and bluegrass musicians) sponsored by CBMS Business Members, and other Events within Colorado that feature national or international bluegrass musicians. When requesting that event information be posted to the web please include performer(s)'s name(s), name of venue, street address of venue, city (and state if not Colorado), contact phone number including area code, and time of performance(s). Please submit all event information by the 12th of the month before the event. Events will be posted as the events coordinator's and webmaster's time permits. Contact Events to add to Web Page. All listed events will be open to the public. Bulletin Board postings are to look for people to jam/band with, instruments, and information related to bluegrass music in Colorado. We won't help promote any commercial enterprise in this space, though, or put up sale ads. Postings will be left up for a maximum of 4 months and will be taken down sooner if any specified date has passed. Please include a valid way for members to contact you. If you want to use e-mail, be sure to allow strangers to e-mail you. Kudos are for members to brag about awards, achievements, announcements, and accolades for three months. You may submit your own or acknowledge the good work of other members. They'll be left up for 3 months. Art Gallery submissions must be made by and come from a member of a current Band on Call. Please send .jpg files and make sure they aren't over 50K. Photo Gallery submissions will be posted if the webmaster likes them. So far she hasn't refused any. Please send .jpg files and make sure they aren't over 50K. Music Links have been discontinued due to the potential legal problems associated with linking to sites with bootleg lyrics, chords, tab, etc. Articles are usually taken from Pow'r Pickin' or "reprinted" with permission from other sources. Other submissions will be considered based on content and appropriateness. Factual, informative, upbeat articles are preferred. TOP |
