Coal Creek Bluegrass Band plays hard-driving, traditional bluegrass
music reminiscent of the seminal bluegrass bands of the 1940’s
and 50’s. A five-piece band from Boulder COunty, Colorado, CCBB
features tight harmony vocals, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and electric
bass. In concert, the band typically uses a single microphone, adjusting
their sound the old-fashioned way: by constant motion. The well-practiced
steps, their “dance” around the microphone, bring singer
and instrumentalist to the forefront naturally. The result blends both
sound and movement to create a totally authentic and engaging presentation
of the music.
Current members of the band are Dave Goldhammer on guitar, Dave Vaillancourt
on mandolin, Dave Patton on banjo, Nancy (“Dave Ann”) Steinberger
on fiddle, and Kerry ("Dave Ellen") Claxton on bass. The musicians
all met through various jams in Boulder COunty.
Formed in late 2001, CCBB has entertaining crowds across Colorado,
Wyoming, and New Mexico. You may have seen one of their famous “Get
in Touch with Your Inner Hillbilly” T-shirts, which are fast becoming
must-have festival attire!
In 2004, CCBB hosted the 2nd Annual Colorado Pickin’ Camp. The
camp was a success by every measure, and the band is already booked
to host the 2005 camp. Also on the schedule for 2005 is the first annual
Greeley Bluegrass Roundup, the Durango
CO Bluegrass Meltdown, Pueblo Bluegrass on the River Festival, and
a second appearance at High
Mountain Hay Fever.
Coal Creek Bluegrass Band plays hard-driving traditional bluegrass
music. Period. No newgrass. No jamgrass. No call-it-what-you-want-cause-it-sure-ain’t-bluegrass.
No Sir, this is the real deal: hard-core, high-lonesome, bass-thumping,
string-breaking, mountain tenor, Jimmy Martin, Bill Monroe, Flatt &
Scruggs, old-time, gospel, moonshine-drinking, loving, cheating, fighting,
chickens-a-hollering, guitar-picking, mandolin-hammering, banjo-rattling,
fiddle-sawing, waltz-time, breakdown music. Every song. Guaranteed.
So kick off your shoes, turn up the volume ‘till the dog barks,
sing along, and… Get in touch with your inner hillbilly!

Many fans kept asking us who they were and where they were from –
we were glad to tell them!”

“A live show from Coal Creek Bluegrass Band keeps you firmly
planted in the traditions of Bluegrass. Even their originals ring
true to the roots. Their show I emceed at The River Run Beer &
Bluegrass festival fit right in… stout, bubbly, loose and hit
the spot. A great addition to the Colorado bluegrass landscape.”
